There is no need for you to leave your dog at home, when you pop out for something to eat in the Heart of Yorkshire!
We have a number of excellent dog friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes across the region that go the extra mile for your beloved canines. We’ve rounded some of them up below, so you can refuel and dine out together after you’ve enjoyed a wander along one of the many fabulous tracks, loops and walks on offer across the district.
Owned by Little Black Dog Brewery, The Doghouse Selby is their first craft beer bar, featuring beers brewed at their Carlton brewery, along with a wide range of rotating craft beers from all across the globe. The Doghouse Selby showcases 19 rotating craft beers and ciders, handmade cocktails, hot drinks, food and sweet treats – plus they’re dog and child friendly, so you can take your little loves along with you in confidence!
They are super dog friendly at The Crooked Billet, with a dedicated dog friendly area and treats on the menu for your four legged companion’s. They have two recommended dog friendly walks from the Crooked Billet and surrounded by lovely countryside, close to the Towton Battlefield Trail, it’s the perfect pit stop. See if you can complete the ‘Yorkshire Pudding Challenge’ whilst you’re there!

Dog lovers and four legged friends are very welcome at The Wheatsheaf Inn in Burn. Guest ales, home cooked food and a real open log fire for the humans and water bowls for the doggies! When you’re visiting, take time to browse the memorabilia of 578 Squadron and 431 ‘Iroquois’ Squadron stationed at Burn during WWII, as well as the collection of antiques and knick-knacks collected and donated by customers over the years.
The Dog Run, Escrick Park Estate
Let your dog run free in just under an acre of fenced space – pre booked please. Afterwards, why not head to the fabulous Olivia’s Tearoom Hollicarrs where dogs are welcome in the outside table area.
As well as being a superb Farm Shop and Restaurant that serves homemade food daily, Forpets DOG walking operate a secure dog walk right next door. There’s loads for your four legged friends to enjoy including plenty of space and obstacles to tackle. Once you’ve worn them out, settle on the dog friendly patio and enjoy some of that lovely homemade food, before wandering around the Farm Shop.
They love to meet your furry friends at Selby Abbey and they’re welcome in the coffee shop also. Take in a tour of the Abbey whilst you’re there (they simply ask that please keep your dogs on short leads whilst in the Abbey) and enjoy some light, locally sourced refreshments in the coffee shop.

Poochie Park, Sherburn in Elmet
Poochie Park in Sherburn in Elmet provides a secure 1.5 acre paddock to hire, for your dogs to have a good run around in. Make a day of it and sample some of the delicious homemade cakes in the beautiful community garden at The Little Teapot Tearoom at The Old Girls School.
The Drovers Arms, set in the picturesque village of Skipwith, offers delicious homemade food, which is locally sourced and reflects the changing seasons, mirroring the wonderful walks to be found through Skipwith Common, right on its doorstep. Enjoy a lovely dog walk through the Common and then treat yourself to a delicious lunch at The Drover’s Arms Restaurant and Country Pub. The Drovers Arms Country Pub is a great place to sit by the fire and enjoy a relaxing pint or delicious glass of wine.
The Castle Inn, set in the picturesque riverside village of Cawood only five miles north of Selby has great food, fine ales, plenty of gin, friendly atmosphere and lovely fireplaces! Dogs are also permitted in the bar area where the full menu is available, so settle down by the fire with your pooch and enjoy a lovely meal and relaxing pint, or delicious glass of wine. It’s a great place to relax after walking your pooch on the Wolsey Walk, which starts from Cawood.
