The solar system cycle trail is an easy route taking you on mainly traffic free routes from Selby to York.

Selby to York cycle route – Solar System

This beautiful route runs from Selby to the walled historic city of York. It follows a mainly traffic-free path through the flat, arable landscape from Selby towards Riccall and on to the Vale of York. It’s also part of the Transpennine Trail.

It’s a perfect route for families and novice cyclists.

Along the way, you can see the ‘Cycle the Solar System’ artwork commissioned by Sustrans. Three scientists from the University of York constructed the 10.4 km scale model of the solar system between Riccall and Bishopthorpe. Along the path, there are scale models of the planets, the correct distance (proportionally) from the Sun and from each other.
